The Head of Data Science is a key strategic role fundamental to the future success of the business. The Head of Data Science will be creating a new data science team from the ground up to help drive, develop and deliver a program of transformative data driven products and services.

Role Description:

The role is to be a proactive, creative and inventive data science leader who will enhance and develop industry transformative products and services. Data science sits at the core of what we seek to achieve and there is full senior management buy in. Everybody ‘gets it’ and the demand for data science in the organisation is very high. We therefore see the Head of Data Science as a senior and high profile role. The key aspects of this role are:

Data Team Leadership

  • Leadership of the data science team, management of analytics processes, procedures and data governance.
  • Building a diverse and cohesive data science team within a global business with stakeholders, collaborators, clients and possibly some or more reports geographically dispersed.
  • Be a data science guru, thought leader, catalyst and mentor. Advise on and assess the appropriateness of analytics methods and techniques for particular problems.
  • Managing and developing team members to achieve competitive advantage though innovation, motivation and development of individuals.
  • Ensure that client (internal and external) activities from within the data analytics team are managed in a manner which is consistent with client agreements, company policy and brand values.

New Technology Development with Data Science

  • Developing new data driven products in coordination with commercial, product management and technology platform teams.
  • Fully participate in the development and delivery of these products at all levels of the organisation and with clients and partners. Products and services to be developed can be software, operational, professional services, raw/processed data product and more.
  • Working with and advising on problems related to data volumes, velocities, varieties, complexities and completeness that can vary significantly depending on the source, application and market.
  • Helping integrate the data science function with the commercial and operational sides of the business at all levels as well as with clients:
    • Relate analytical results to real world problems and explain the results to non-technical clients and colleagues.
    • Acting as a translator of data science to business and business to data science widely around the organisation and clients
    • Be a data science evangelist and promote analytics internally and externally.
  • Manage the delivery and execution of standardised analytics services efficiently and consistently.
